The Poultry Health Centre of Catalonia and Aragon(CESAC), was born from the agreement that was singed on July 14th, 1987, between the fishing, livestock and Agriculture department (DARP) of the Generalitat of Catalonia, with the representatives of the Poultry private sector (FAC) and the cooperatives.
The reasons to create CESAC, can be outlined as follows:
The Poultry constitutes, inside of Catalonia, one of the main resources of the livestock, therefore, it has to be protected to obtain a competitive level against the communitarian poultry sectors.
The poultry sector, due to the new intensive production systems application, results one of the most dynamic sectors inside of the Catalan livestock.
The poultry health is a factor to promote in order to be able to give sufficient agility to the commercial transaction that the economic trade demands, in which the poultry sector is moving.
The DARP knows the necessity to guard by the poultry health like a patrimony of all, adapting the applicable norms to the productives and economicals present structures.
The poultry sector knows the importance that has the health vigilance to avoid the diffusion of diseases that negatively influence in the production.
Both parts see the necessity of working jointly (together) to create an organ of continued sanitary monitoring of the poultry operations to aim and effect to obtain major agility in livestock movements.
The rapidity in detecting the diseases and to diagnose them, it's one of the basics elements to be able to establish measurements directed to its fight and eradication.
Consequently, by so improving and protecting the poultry production sanitarily that constitute an important patrimony for the society and the Catalan economy, agreed with the creation of the centre, that will have an objective to provide help and sanitary assistance to the problems of the poultry operations. Permanently informing of the sanitary situation, in order to give support to the actions that will make the poultry sector in Catalonia and Aragón, in the production and commercialization of their products.
