Feed enzymes complete the animals digestive system by providing enzyme activities that are not, or insufficiently, available in the gastrointestinal tract.
Non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) are indigestible and entrap nutrients in plant cell walls. NSP-degrading enzymes release these nutrients. An additional reduction of digesta viscosity further helps to improve the digestibility of fat and other nutrients while disorders like sticky droppings and wet litter, are alleviated.
Phytate-bound plant phosphorus is almost unavailable to monogastric animals. The application of microbial phytase improves availability and thus allows the use of environmentally friendly, low phosphorus diets. Additional release of other minerals and nutrients from the phytate complexes is considered to be a reason for enhanced performance of the animals.
