Sometimes the most effective solution is the simplest. Koppert, in collaboration with SAN SAN Prodesing has developed a trap for hunting litter beetle, Alphitobius diaperinus, a vector of diseases and a destroyer of the insulating panels due to tunnels dug within them.
With an eye on sustainability, they have developed a system whose use is possible with the chickens inside the facility. This trap has a
black funnel and a roughened outer wall allowing the beetle larvae rise directly from the litter within precipitating from the apex. Once inside, they fall into a white plastic tray from which they can not escape. You just have to empty it once a week then burning or destroying the larvae.
The advantages: simplicity, effectiveness and zero maintenance cost. Besides, it doesn't use any chemicals or toxic to humans or birds.
